LIFE AFTER LOCKDOWN

It’s felt like a lifetime, but things have finally taken a turn for the better. As the Government announces plans to start relaxing the lockdown restrictions that have been in place since mid-March, Australians across the country are thinking about what they will be able to do in the coming weeks, and what they’ll still have to hold off on for a while longer.

Considering the varying levels of success of managing both the health and economic implications across the globe, Australia has triumphed with relatively low COVID-19 cases and impressively few fatalities. But it has been a very challenging time for everyone, with businesses of all descriptions suffering, and the effects of social distancing taking their toll in a personal capacity. However some light at the tunnel is in sight, Australian businesses can now begin to consider the prospect of life after lockdown and the Federal Government has released details of the 3 step plan to restart the economy and return Australians to work safely.

The National Cabinet met on Friday 8th May, to further discuss options for easing restrictions over the coming months, helping prepare Australians to go back to work in a COVID-19 safe environment and getting the economy back to a more sustainable level.

PM Scott Morrison announced a plan to put Australia back on the road to recovery from Coronavirus. It will be to the discretion of each state to implement each step and when with the plan to have all steps in action by mid-July.

  • Step 1 will focus on carefully reopening the economy, and giving Australians opportunities to return to work and social activities, including gatherings of up to 10 people, up to 5 visitors in the family home and some local and regional travel

  • Step 2 builds on this with gatherings of up to 20, and more businesses reopening, including gyms, beauty services and entertainment venues like galleries and cinemas.

  • Step 3 will see a transition to COVID safe ways of living and working, with gatherings of up to 100 people permitted. Arrangements under step 3 will be the ‘new normal’ while the virus remains a threat. International travel and mass gatherings over 100 people will remain restricted.

As we’re not out of the woods yet, steps one and two encourage businesses to continue working from home where it makes sense for employees to do so. Our recent blogs and research articles have referenced the reality that working from home is here to stay. It is important that organisations are equipped to cater to this through means of remote collaboration and connectivity for their teams. Digital First are experts in the digital workplace and work with clients within a range of government, corporate and SMB disciplines.
